Rough Goldenrod is a herbaceous perennial with rough hairy stems and sharply serrated rich green foliage. Dense plume-like panicles of tiny bright yellow flowers bloom from late summer into fall, attracting butterflies. Best color with full sun and slightly acidic moist well-drained soils. Tolerates wet soils and light shade.
Solidago rugosa is a good host plant for wildlife, providing late season nectar and pollen for native pollinators and butterflies. The foliage is eaten by several types of moth calipers and the seeds are eaten by songbirds.
