Winter Torch Willow is a compact deciduous tree primarily grown for its slim upright green stems that turn a striking red-orange as the weather cools. The narrow green foliage has downy hairs on its undersides and turn yellow in fall. The male yellow catkins are showy and bloom in early spring before the foliage emerges. Thrives in full sun with consistently moist well drained soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: High maintenance. Avoid dry soils. Susceptible to various diseases, including blights, powdery mildew, leaf spots and cankers. Possible pests include aphids, scale, borers, and lacebugs. Prune as needed in late winter to early spring. The wood is weak due to fast growing and may split or crack. Leaf and stem litter can be an issue. Shallow roots can clog sewers or drains if planted near them.
